Nutritional Therapy for an Underactive Thyroid (Hypothyroidism)
An underactive thyroid develops due to the thyroid gland and/or the pituitary gland not producing adequate amounts of thyroid hormones. Women are more likely than men to develop an underactive thyroid and are likely to develop the condition in their thirties or forties.
An auto-immune condition called Hashimoto's disease is the most common cause of an underactive thyroid. Hashimoto's disease occurs due to the immune system rejecting thyroid hormones, the body produce antibodies which then attack thyroid tissue.
The most common symptoms associated with an underactive thyroid is excessive tiredness and an intolerance to the cold.
Nutritional Therapy works by addressing the root cause of symptoms instead of just treating symptoms, you will be provided with a plan which will include recommendations for dietary changes, lifestyle changes, diagnostic testing and nutritional supplements. We will devise a plan together which will be monitored over a length of time.
Nutritional Therapy is not a quick fix diet and needs to be maintained, the programme is a health enhancing diet which will help you to have more energy, will add vital vitamins and minerals to your body and will help you to lead a healthier and happier life.
